The Maropeng Visitor Centre and the Sterkfontein Caves will be open during the festive season. Please note, we are only allowing online bookings in order to limit the number of visitors to our site. No tickets will be sold on site.
We’ll be open on a daily basis from 1 to 27 January 2021, and then we’ll move to a three-days-a-week schedule from the end of January (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).
Our sites have been closed to visitors since March due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and we have been hard at work putting measures in place to keep both visitors and staff safe as we reopen.
Here’s what you need to know to plan your visit:
1. Online bookings only, and we’ve gone cashless
Please book your visit online ahead of your trip to our sites. You will not be able to buy a ticket once you arrive. We have limited the number of people allowed per tour in line with Covid-19 guidelines for social distancing, so it is very important to book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
2. No mask, no entry and other Covid-19 rules are in place
We’re adhering to strict Covid-19 rules to ensure your safety and ours. Please note that all visitors over the age of six will be expected to wear a face mask while on site (except when eating).
We will be taking temperatures of visitors at our entrance, and collecting contact information as per government contact-tracing regulations.
You will have access to hand sanitiser at various points around our properties. However, we do encourage you to bring your own sanitiser and ensure that you’re protecting yourself as you move around our property.
3. Here are our new ticket prices
- Maropeng R100 (everyone except children under six)
- Sterkfontein R100 (everyone except children under six)
- Sterkfontein (exhibition only) R35 (everyone except kids under six)
- Children under six are allowed in free at all our sites
We will not be selling tickets on site and please remember we are not accepting cash on site for other items. Only card transactions will be accepted.
Here’s what’s on offer:
Venture into the caves for a guided tour, or simply take in the insightful exhibition and a long stroll along the boardwalk that borders the fascinating site.
Stay at the Maropeng Boutique Hotel
Our beautiful Maropeng Boutique Hotel will be open 7-days a week from December. In order to keep you safe, our hotel rooms are cleaned and disinfected regularly using a combination of ultraviolet light treatments and normal cleansing methods. Guests are requested to please keep their face masks at the hotel - except when they’re eating or when they’re in their hotel rooms.
