Astronomer Vincent Nettmann runs the stargazing events at Maropeng.

Ever look up at the stars and admire their beauty and wonder just how far they are from us, and what really goes on up there?

Well, if the beauty of stars fascinates you then make your way to the Maropeng Visitor Centre this weekend for our monthly stargazing event.

Led by public astronomer Vincent Nettmann, stargazing at Maropeng includes an engaging presentation about the galaxies and, if the weather permits, guests can go to the Tumulus restaurant for a laser-guided sky tour and to view the heavens through a large-aperture telescope.

The event begins at 17h00 with Nettmann taking guests on a trip to outer space through his interactive and humorous presentation. Throughout his talk he encourages stargazers to stop and ask questions so that everyone has an understanding of what goes on in the stars.

Stargazing at Maropeng is not your standard, run-of-the-mill presentation-style event – it is highly interactive. Even before the event starts, guest can be seen mingling or enjoying cocktails while admiring the sun setting over the Magaliesberg Mountains.

After the formal proceedings, Nettmann and his dedicated team of astronomers are available for one on one discussions about the stars.

The stargazing is followed by a delicious buffet dinner which is included in the ticket price of R190 per adult and R90 per child (4 - 14 years old).

Don’t forget to bring your binoculars so that you can participate in the laser-guided sky tour. You an also combine this fun-filled event with an overnight stay at the Maropeng Boutique Hotel.
