What’s on at Maropeng?

There's a lot coming up at Maropeng over the next little while. To keep you in the loop, we thought we'd put it all in one place, the better for you to plan your diary over the coming weeks.

First things first: food.

27 April: Freedom Day buffet lunch

This Freedom Day, Wednesday, 27 April, we'll be hosting an incredible buffet lunch at our Tumulus restaurant. Our menu includes an extensive salad selection and the opportunity to create your own stir fry, shawarma or tortilla using only the freshest and most flavourful of ingredients. Making your own pasta dish is also an option. Of course, we're never ones to skimp on dessert, and a selection of mousses, brownies, tarts and puddings will be sure to tickle that sweet fancy.

30 April: wine pairing

And if that hasn't quite satisfied your love of exceptional food, join us for our wine-pairing dinner just a few days later on Saturday, 30 April. Our Gastronomy-trained culinary artist, chef Peter Langa, has teamed up with Morgenhof Wine Estate to create a five-course dinner that will delight every tastebud. Think chenin blanc and salmon, merlot and lamb, sauvignon blanc and kingklip, cabernet franc and guinea fowl, and the classic Morgenhof Estate with all things decadent.

7 May: Our deep southern skies

To give you a bit of a breather from these meals (and to help your appetite to prepare for the next one), why not join us for our May stargazing event?

On Saturday, 7 May, we'll be turning our gaze upwards, to the stars that dominate the southern region of the sky – two-thirds of all those visible from Earth. On a perfect moonless evening, our large telescopes reveal the delicate structures of faraway objects such as the sparkling stars in the colourful Jewel Box cluster.

Observe massive clouds of dust and gas in the Eta Carina Nebula, a birthplace of stars, and see over 3-million stars in the brightest of the globular clusters, Omega Centauri. Join Maropeng’s resident astronomer, Vincent Nettmann, for an informative dinner talk, illustrated with spectacular astrophotographic images.

8 May: Mother's Day

We're here to help you to spoil mum this Mother’s Day with another delicious buffet. She's sure to be totally overwhelmed with our selection of fresh breads, crunchy salads, a variety of main course meats and veggies, and (obviously) the very best of Maropeng desserts.
