Hominin House offers group accommodation for up to 120 learners or adults, with separate rooms for teachers or overseers.

“We have just laid the foundations for six additional en-suite rooms for teachers. I have no doubt having their own rooms and bathrooms will make their stay a little more relaxing,” says Maropeng managing director Tony Rubin.

It is soon to be renamed Hominin House and will also feature exciting additions such as an all-purpose activity room for learners’ education and recreation sessions.

“The theme of the new project focuses on renewable energy and sustainability. We will be using solar power for heating and solar energy will also charge batteries which will be used to power the lighting.

“Our activity room will include an educational section [reflecting] the building's theme that will show, for instance, how all the water in the building is recycled and reused. We hope to instil some real take-home recycling know-how in our new visitors,” says Rubin.

Says Maropeng’s marketing and communications manager Lindsay Marshall: “Hominin House is not only going to be upgraded as accommodation but will also showcase a number of educational features, therefore it would be only correct that the name used is as scientifically correct as possible.”
