Morris Sutton, a researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand, gives a tour of the Swartkrans site

Sure, you can read that excavations this year unearthed new Paranthropus robustus fossils or that subsequent research taught us more about our the human lineage. You can read about Swartkrans having evidence of fire being used 1-million years ago.

But why read about it, when you can experience it first-hand?

Swartkrans, one of the Cradle of Humankind’s richest fossil sites, is usually closed to the public. But on special tours, small groups will have a rare opportunity to observe an active palaeontological dig and be guided around the site by scientist Morris Sutton, who is currently excavating there.

The walking tour and picnic takes place on 26 January 2013.
