Brendon Billings 2
Brendon Billings is a faculty member and curator at Wits University’s School of Anatomical Sciences and is Maropeng’s resident Bone Detective.

If you’re one of those TV watchers who manages to solve mysteries well ahead of the detectives in every episode of CSI or Bones, then it’s time you put your detective skills to the test in the real world – at the Cradle of Humankind.

Maropeng will be hosting another one of our much-loved Murder Mystery evenings on 29 November 2014.

The intrigue begins in a sandpit in Maropeng where, as the story goes, police officers have descended after a call from a mysterious “informant”.

Upon their arrival, the detectives make a chilling discovery: bones buried deep underground. After unearthing the remains and examining the burial site, police call for the assistance of forensic anthropologists.

That’s where you come in.

The Maropeng CSI needs you to apply your detective and investigative skills to help anthropology expert Dr Patrick Randolph-Quinney and Maropeng’s bone detective Brendon Billings to solve the mystery of who the victims are, how they died … and, of course, who did it.

The authenticity of the game is enhanced through the involvement of the Human Identification Unit at Wits, which has teamed up with the visitor centre for the event.

“Maropeng has developed a great relationship with the Human Identification Unit at Wits University’s School of Anatomical Science and we are always very enthusiastic to work with them,” says Lindsay Marshall, marketing and communications manager at Maropeng.

After working up an appetite from the investigation, a buffet dinner at Maropeng’s Tumulus Restaurant will be served.

“We have created an amazing scenario for the event and this will be a fun and very informative evening for the people who will attend,” says Marshall.

The event will start at 14h00 at the Maropeng Tumulus building and refreshments will be served upon arrival.

Tickets cost R425 per person
