Spring signifies renewed growth and at this time My Destination Global is also delighted to announce the launch of our new website platform during the month of September. Project 1.5, as the name would suggest, has been created as a package of developments which we view as a major stepping stone towards the full implementation of the Next Generation Strategy. Not only does 1.5 introduce new features and technologies but it also lays the foundations of a brand new platform for all our future endeavours. The new website showcases our business as a big global enterprise!

Stay tuned with My Destination Johannesburg for what is Hot and Happening this spring - EVENTS

Each month My Destination Johannesburg as your Tour Guide will showcase a different venue in or around Johannesburg. We encourage you to ‘Create your own Destination’ through My Destination Johannesburg…

The end of August took My Destination Johannesburg to THE MAROPENG VISITOR CENTRE in the Cradle of Humankind. There was much to explore and it was certainly a meaningful excursion away from metropolitan life, although a close enough drive to Johannesburg. This exhibition centre is a remarkably orchestrated journey of discovery amidst a natural heritage site. The very earthy looking and environmentally friendly centre takes one on a journey dating back to billions of years ago. The underground boat ride is a highlight for many and depicts the journey from present times going back through the ages through the four classic elements: earth, air, fire and, water. Before continuing down the black hole to an audio visual presentation which provides further understanding of the boat ride you have just experienced, you are presented with a family photo opportunity. This is a great personal touch and you  can choose from a variety of frames and photo options to embellish your experience!

Depending on your enthusiasm and level of interest the exhibition centre can take anything from one to seven hours. It is extremely engaging and interactive and is suitable and fun for the whole family. Visitors have the opportunity to explore various interactive displays highlighting the history of humankind and the planet as well as the importance of sustainability and preserving our heritage for future generations. There are also a number of  original fossil displays which change on a regular basis. On exitingthe exhibition centre you are greeted by a magnificent view of the Magaliesburg Mountain range.

Other facilities at Maropeng include the Tumulus Restaurant with an affordable and varied but enticing menu.  One can either sit inside or outside on the deck, dependent on weather conditions. The beautiful four-star Maropeng Boutique Hotel is available to those wishing to stay overnight and consists of 24 rooms. The all-embracing theme of the four classic elements is also projected in the décor of this hotel. There is a rather inviting swimming pool outside of the reception area and each room has a semi-private patio with beautiful views of the majestic mountains.

There are a number of play areas for the children, including a kiddies cave to explore and jungle gyms. It is certainly rated as an ideal family destination in the surrounding areas of Johannesburg. The Visitor Centre is open daily from 9am to 5pm and tour guides can be arranged. Tours can also be combined to include a tour of the Sterkfontein Caves. Additional excursions include: Coopers Cave Picnic & Walking Tour, Swartkrans Picnic & Walking Tour, Bone Detectives Presentation and Picnic Tour as well as a spectacular Stargazing Experience hosted by Maropeng’s resident astronomer.
