Maropeng to host international chefs

  • August 31, 2011

On 31 August, 34 international chefs participating in the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger will be arriving at Maropeng to experience first-hand not only the intriguing origins of our species but some of the best of local flavour.

The chefs will be taken on a tour of the Sterkfontein Caves and the Maropeng Visitor Centre, as well as treated to a uniquely South African meal prepared by Head Chef, Peter Langa.

“It’s a dream come true. To get feedback from these professionals will be so special and a real learning curve for me,” comments Langa. “I’m hoping my roast fillet with a chunky cranberry sauce that I plan to serve as one of the mains will be met with rave reviews.”

The chefs have been part of a national 10-day culinary journey that began on 21 August, motivated by the plight of starving children in South Africa. 250 international chefs from 44 countries and more than 700 local chefs are part of the initiative aiming to raise R5-million towards feeding underprivileged children.

Tony Rubin, managing director at Maropeng, is honoured and excited at Maropeng’s involvement with the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger. “It is such a privilege to have been approached by the South African Chefs Association. We can’t wait to show the international chefs their origins,” says Rubin.
