Hard work, loyalty and determination are some of the qualities that Anthony Sibanda likes in his staff. The former Maropeng waiter is now Assistant Hotel Supervisor at Maropeng’s Cradle of Humankind’s four-star hotel.

In December 2005 Anthony heard that there were vacancies at Maropeng. He decided to apply and was lucky to be offered a job; he hasn’t looked back since.

The father of two says he enjoys working at Maropeng because employees are given opportunities to develop themselves.

He has attended many courses, including food and beverages, supervision, and food service and excellence courses.

What makes Maropeng stand out from previous jobs, he says, is the way in which management treats the staff.

“They give people opportunities to grow here. There is no pressure, you aren’t pushed around and you are able to express yourself. The environment at Maropeng is great, you get training and promoted from one department to another. Mr Tony [Rubin] is really friendly and he listens to our ideas.”

One of his most special moments at Maropeng was when it won the South African Tourism award. “I saw that our efforts had paid off.”

Anthony says his life has changed for the better since he started working at Maropeng.

“My wish is for Maropeng to grow from strength to strength. I want to see this hotel competing with the big hotels in Gauteng.”
