Maropeng attended the Meetings Africa trade show and exhibition in Johannesburg this week.

The event, organised by South African Tourism annually, aims to bring together local and international travel, tourism and events buyers and organisers with locally based service providers.

The event ran from February 25 to February 27, 2009, at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Maropeng attends the event annually, setting up a stand and meetings with various local and international businesses.

The event logistics were handled by Thebe Exhibitions and Projects.

Thebe General Manager for Tourism Glynis Anderson called the event a resounding success and a “sales person’s dream”.

Maropeng Marketing Manager Erica Saunders and Karen Nicholls of Southern Spoor Marketing, Maropeng’s travel trade marketing provider, were on hand to talk to interested parties at the stand about Maropeng’s varied offerings – including their conferencing and event facilities, the Maropeng Hotel, the Maropeng exhibition, and team-building opportunities.

“We are very happy with the quality of the people we have met with this week. It has also been a good platform to market the Maropeng open day,” said Nicholls.

“Meetings Africa is a fantastic event for networking purposes. The focus this year has been firmly on the 2010 World Cup and how to keep visitors busy between games. We’re in a great place for that in terms of day visits,” said Saunders.

Roughly 3000 people attended this year’s event.
