Maropeng is Proudly South African
Maropeng is thrilled to announce that it is officially Proudly South African.
Earlier this month the Visitor Centre, Maropeng Hotel, Sterkfontein Caves and Hominid House became certified members of Proudly SA. The accommodation and tourism attractions are also Fair Trade Tourism-certified.
As members of the Proudly SA campaign, Maropeng shares a commitment to promoting social and economic change and progress in the country by contributing to the local economy, helping create jobs and retaining existing employment opportunities.
In practice this means that Maropeng is officially endorsed by Proudly SA and can brand itself with the Proudly SA logo, a mark of quality and a signifier of a proud country of origin brand.
“We are proud to be the first heritage site in South Africa to be accredited by Proudly SA and hope that our membership will prompt others within the heritage and tourism community to follow our lead. As South African born and bred, to have the endorsement of Proudly SA is a massive achievement for us at Maropeng,” says Maropeng managing director Tony Rubin.
“As Proudly SA we continually celebrate, promote and create awareness around our national heritage, as well as local tourism as a tool to create jobs and drive national pride. We are therefore thrilled to welcome Maropeng – a world-class facility – to the Proudly South African family,” says the CEO of Proudly SA, Advocate Leslie Sedibe.
Since 2008 Maropeng has scooped top honours in the West Rand Tourism Awards.
In this year’s Awards, Maropeng was awarded the following accolades:
Best Overall Tourism Establishment
Best Educational Tourism Experience
Best Eco Tourism Establishment
Best Meeting, Incentive and Conference Venue
Beverly Makopo from the Sterkfontein Caves won gold in the Best Site Guide category.
In addition, the Maropeng Hotel was awarded silver in the Best 4 Star Lodge category and was a finalist in the Sustained Achievement Award.
