Maropeng would like to extend warm congratulations to your Matric class of 2011 and to all the teachers who assisted in paving the road for South Africa’s future leaders.

As the official visitor’s centre for the historic Cradle of Humankind, Maropeng supports and celebrates education and the important role that teachers play in contributing to the future success of our children and country.

Knowledge is indeed power and the educational experts at Maropeng are committed to spreading their knowledge by showcasing, highlighting and exposing their research and in this way sharing and publicising South Africa’s unparalleled archaeological and palaeontological heritage.

At our World Heritage site learners can explore the mysterious nooks and crannies of the Sterkfontein Caves, and discover the wonderful world of our past and future at the interactive Maropeng Visitor Centre, complete with underground boat ride, fun educational displays, and real fossils.

We provide guided tours and free resource packs to schools’ teachers to use as guides to enhance the learner’s Cradle experience, ensuring the excursion is educational, interactive and fun. These are curriculum-linked and brimming with fascinating and practical educational material.

Your learners can also enjoy a range of additional activities such as star gazing and specialised tours with a scientist or Maropeng’s Curator, Lindsay Marshall. Learners can also opt for a fascinating and memorable tour to an excavation site.

To book your 2012 class outing contact or call Dorcas Tshabalala on (014) 577 9000 to tailor-make your experience.

We look forward to seeing you in 2012 and wish you and all your learners a successful and prosperous year.

Yours in education,
Tony Rubin
