Forthcoming runs in the Cradle of Humankind
We have compiled a list of upcoming events, from fun family runs to serious 50km trail races, to be enjoyed throughout the year.
60s & 70s Trail Run, Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge – 23 April
Take a trip down memory lane with this 60s- and 70s-themed race, which promises to be a fun event with good food and music in a stunning location. Time to get your afros and joggers out, and join this fun run.
You do not have to be super-fit to participate in this run. There is a 5km event, which presents the perfect opportunity for beginners, and a 10km run for those who are ready for a bit of a challenge. And participants won't have to wake up before dawn as the 10km run starts at 8am, followed by the 5km at 8.15am. The race will start from Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge and offers magnificent views to enjoy along the way.
The emphasis here is fun and walkers are welcome. There is a prize for best-dressed, so make sure you stick to the theme.

Cradle of Humankind Road Race – 27 April
You have until 6 April to register for one of four race distances: 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 32km. Runners stand to win medals and cash prizes.
The 10km, 21.1km and 32km races start at 7am, and the 5km run at 7.15am. All races start at the Makiti wedding venue, opposite the Sterkfontein Caves.

The Mount Grace Super Series – 14 May-4 December
The African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa and The Leverage Corporation will be hosting the Mount Grace Super Series, which runs from 14 May to 15 May, 25 to 26 May, 29 to 30 October and 3 to 4 December.
The four-part series is designed to appeal to trail runners, trail walkers and mountain bikers of all ages. There are four race lengths, starting from just 3km to 8km, 16km and 25km. There is also an option to participate in a trail-running and mountain-biking combo.

Spur Gauteng Winter Trail Series – 12 June-3 July
The Spur Gauteng Winter Trail Series consists of four long and short races on different dates in different locations, all in the Cradle of Humankind region. Participants are free to take part in as many of the races as they want to, but need to complete at least three to qualify for a medal.
The first race starts from B'Sorah Luxury Tented Camp on 12 June. The second race takes place at Hennops River on 19 June, followed by the third at Segwati Ranch on 26 June, and the final event at Leeuwenkloof on 3 July.
The Crazy Store Magaliesberg Challenge 2016 – 20 August
The Crazy Store Magaliesberg Challenge 2016 consists of four distances: 12km, 22km, 36km and 50km. Registration starts at 6am for the 36km and 50km races, and 7.30am for the 12km and 22km events. All participants are required to provide their own food and refreshments.
This race is perfect for the whole family as there is a restaurant at the start with a kiddies’ jungle gym to keep them entertained during the race. The older kids can look forward to a free run starting at 10am, with goodie bags to be won.

Magalies Adventure Trail Run/Walk – 19-20 November
The Magalies Adventure Trail Run/Walk is a great way for the whole family to enjoy the great outdoors. The race will start at the African Pride Mount Grace Country House and Spa, which boasts stunning views of the mountains. Participants can also look forward to a complimentary massage from the spa.
If you register online you will receive a race T-shirt and on the day there will be lucky prizes to be won. There are a number of distances from which to choose: 8km, 16km and 25km, all beginning at 7am on race day. The 3km is perfect for beginners and children, and it starts at 7.45am.
