Zodwa Mtshali and John Gray

John Gray, author of the internationally best-selling book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, visited Maropeng yesterday, October 12, 2009.

Gray was in South Africa to give seminars about relationships and parenting.

Published in 1992, his book suggests that men and women are completely different from one another – so different that they can be likened to two species from different planets. The main aim of the book is to improve couples’ relationships through an understanding of their differences.

Gray and his wife were at one, however, on the value of visiting Maropeng. “My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience; our minds were stimulated with the new insight regarding the origin of humankind. It has inspired us even more to help create a sustainable world. This is a must-see for everyone visiting South Africa,” he said.

Zodwa Mtshali, the guide who took the Grays on their tour, is a big fan and owns her own copy of the book. She describes its author as a humble man interested in learning about his origins. “He loved the exhibition, right from the beginning, and he was very interested in the time line,” she said.

“I never thought I would take John Gray on a tour – yesterday was like getting my Christmas present early,” she added.
