Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind, has been recognised for its skill in eventing and the unique experience it offers visitors.

The centre picked up the awards at the second annual Gauteng Lilizela Tourism Awards, which were held at Montecasino on Wednesday night.

Maropeng emerged the winner in the Meeting, Exhibitions and Special Events category, as well as the Roots and Culture category.

It was also a finalist in the four-star hotel category, for its luxury Maropeng Hotel.

The awards, an initiative by the National Department of Tourism and South Africa’s Tourism Grading Council, recognise excellence in the industry.

Maropeng’s Lindsay Marshall said the double win is thanks the hard work of the management and workers at the visitor centre.

“The awards Maropeng received are a testament to the dedication of Maropeng’s management team under the leadership of Tony Rubin and an enthusiastic and committed staff, who every day go out of their way to provide a wonderful experience for our guest,” she said.
