MAROPENG COOKS COMPLETE CERTIFICATE IN PROFESSIONAL COOKERY
Three of Maropeng’s kitchen staff recently completed a one-year certificate programme in Professional Cookery through Hospitality Trainers and Associates (HTA) which is the first step towards starting a career as a professional in the food industry.
“For the past three years Maropeng has identified and invested in kitchen staff who have shown the willingness and desire to improve themselves. The programme not only gives the candidates an opportunity to pursue a career in cookery but it also assists us in maintaining a consistently high level of food and service on site,” says Lindsay Marshall, Curator at Maropeng.
Mpho Dube, Sarah Mokwena and Mirriam Kwapeng are the most recent course graduates at Maropeng and are excited and enthusiastic about the knowledge and skills they have acquired.
“Peter Langa, the Head Chef, encouraged me to do the training and it was something I did not take lightly and really committed to. I knew it would allow for improvement not only my job but in my life too,” says Dube.
The one-year certificate programme in Professional Cookery is run by HTA and forms part of its larger objective to up-skill and develop local chefs. Today through a range of training interventions, HTA skills and certifies approximately 500 cooks and chefs per annum.
“It is extremely gratifying to see our course graduates grow during the course of their programmes. We are very proud of Mpho, Sarah and Mirriam for showing such commitment and dedication during the programme. We know their hard work will pay off and we look forward to seeing their enhanced contributions in our kitchens,” concludes Marshall.
