HARRY’S  FAST FACTS ABOUT EARTH DAY

Earth Day is a global movement held annually on 22 April to promote awareness of and
appreciation for Earth's environmental issues. Earth Day is celebrated around the world and
offers an opportunity for people to commit to building a safer, healthier, cleaner, sustainable
world.

Harry the Hominid, Maropeng’s spokeshominid, says we need to take responsibility for the problems Earth now faces, and help find solutions.
“There is no Plan(et) B. There are many things we can both as individuals and collectively do to make a difference.  Let’s get sustainably involved!,” he says.
Here is Harry’s list of the major environmental issues Earth faces caused by humankind:

• the greenhouse effect
• global warming and climate change
• destructive energy sources
• toxic waste
• groundwater contamination, abuse of water resources, wetland destruction, and pollution of waterways and the oceans
• the impact of litter on our water resources and on ecosystems
• overfishing and unsustainable fishing of our seas and oceans
• destruction of rainforests expanding deserts

“Let’s work together to put an end to these issues. Don’t litter, recycle, don’t pollute our rivers and take responsibility for your actions so we can enjoy a greener future together,” he says.
