Harry the Hominid at Cradlestone Mall
Cradlestone Mall has become home to Maropeng’s hairy ambassador, Harry the Hominid, for the month of September, highlighting the Cradle's rich heritage during Heritage Month.
Harry the Hominid, the official tour guide for the Maropeng visitor centre in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, is camping out in Shop U81 on the upper level of the mall. He has travelled the world, entertaining and educating audiences about the special importance of the World Heritage Site.
Cradlestone Mall general manager Cara Grobler says: “As Cradlestone Mall has a strong connection with Maropeng, we are bringing a little piece of the Cradle of Humankind to the mall. Harry camping out in the mall offers shoppers an opportunity to view Harry and to learn more about Maropeng."
The joint campaign between Cradlestone Mall and Maropeng, which will run throughout the month, will see customers who spend R100 or more and have their slips stamped at the information kiosk receive 25% off Maropeng combined adult tickets (Maropeng and Sterkfontein Cave Tour).
“In the Cradle of Humankind, about 1 000 hominid fossils have been discovered, spanning several million years. Harry the Hominid is a wonderful ambassador for Maropeng and his visit to Cradlestone Mall is a chance for people learn more about the area’s rich heritage,” adds Grobler.
Maropeng spokesperson Lindsay Marshall says: “Cradlestone Mall positions itself as a unique shopping centre because of its surroundings and beautiful views. We at Maropeng tell the story of the area that Cradlestone is in, so it was a natural synergy to work together. It is my hope that Harry the Hominid’s visit to the mall will inspire shoppers to find out more about the Cradle of Humankind and visit Maropeng.”
