Maropeng again awarded high BEE status

Maropeng was once again awarded a high Black Economic Empowerment status in its most recent assessment by the BEE Verification Agency in December 2010.

Managing Director Tony Rubin says that, as a business, Maropeng is committed to holistic transformation: “Our policy at Maropeng in terms of BEE is to, as far as possible, only employ people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. From within we also have a skills development programme, which is highly productive.”

Maropeng and Cradle of Humankind award R20 000 to local school

Unity Primary School, a farm school in the Tarlton area, has taken top honours in the Cradle of Humankind Gauteng schools’ treasure hunt competition.

Tuberculosis organisation visits Maropeng staff

The South African National Tuberculosis Association (Santa) paid a visit to Maropeng last month. They came to screen staff for signs of tuberculosis, a disease that kills 2-million people worldwide every year.

Maropeng takes top honours at the Welcome Awards

Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, took top honours at the 2008 Welcome Awards, in the Tourist Attraction category.

World-class guides at world-class visitor centre

All Maropeng guides have received accreditation with the Gauteng Tourism Authority. In 1999, the fossil hominid sites of Sterkfontein Caves, Swartkrans, Kromdraai and Environs in the Cradle of Humankind were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, which aims to preserve areas of exceptional value throughout the world.
