“I am a receptionist, tour guide and cashier. I don’t know how I manage; I just do. It’s called multi-tasking.”

Yvonne Molefe was, on the day of this interview, filling in as a receptionist, but she’s highly adaptable. Yvonne started working at Maropeng in November 2005, when the centre first opened its gates to the public, so has loads of experience in different areas of the business.

Before joining Maropeng, Molefe worked as a chef at Sun City and as a training advisor at the Academy of Learning.

This woman of many talents says she has always wanted to be a receptionist, so when she heard of a job opening at Maropeng, she didn’t hesitate to apply.

Dealing with people on a daily basis means that you get to interact with lots of different people from a variety of cultural backgrounds, races and ethnicity.

Even though some people are difficult, Molefe says she always smiles, remains polite and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Molefe loves the openness and friendliness of the staff at Maropeng.

“The staff here is like a family. Tony Rubin is like a father, friend, brother and manager and though there are lots of us, we are united.”

Queen of multi-tasking, Yvonne Molefe

One of her most memorable moments at Maropeng has been meeting Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

“I shook his hand and even asked him for an autograph,” she giggles.

If Molefe wasn’t working at Maropeng, she says she would still be in a position that involves working with people.

In her spare time this proud mother and wife loves to cook for her husband and play with her son and daughter.

In a few years’ time, Molefe says she would love to have a job that will enable her to spend more time with her family.
