Maropeng walks the talk
July 25, 2011 – Mildred Thabane
Yesterday, seven staff members from Maropeng joined forces to complete the Discovery 702 Walk the Talk 2011. This is the second year that Maropeng has taken part.
The Discovery 702 Walk the Talk is linked to many fundraising initiatives, and since 2006 the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has been the official charity of the event.
Jantjie Melk, Adelaide Sebothoma, Ntlotleng Kobue, Ofentse Mofokeng, Joseph Sello and Tisetso (friend)
Negondeni, hotel manager at Maropeng, says: “This year’s walk was the best and next year we’ll be taking as many staff as possible to the walk. When we were there wearing our Maropeng T-shirts people were asking us about Maropeng – it’s a great marketing strategy for us to get Maropeng’s name out there.”
“The walk was absolutely lovely,” says Kobue, “and the weather was great! It was lovely to be with colleagues outside of work. We were also there as a company to support this great initiative that is growing every year. It would be good to have an even greater number of our staff there next year!”
Boat-ride operator Melk feels that the walk was a great opportunity to get to know his colleagues better. “The walk was a lot of fun; we really connected and made friends.” He also won a special prize after he did a spontaneous modern dance to some house music in front of the crowd. “I’m not shy, dancing is my passion,” he says.
Looking forward to the 2012 walk, Jantjie, who’s worked at Maropeng for more than a year, says he won’t miss next year’s Walk the Talk so other walkers better watch out for his moves!
