A total of 250 international chefs from 44 countries will be in South Africa for a 10-day culinary journey as part of the initiative.
The tour has been motivated by the plight of starving children in South Africa. The international chefs will be joined by more than 700 local chefs in a bid to raise R5-million towards feeding underprivileged children.
Head chef at Maropeng Peter Langa is preparing a uniquely South African five-course meal that will include roast fillet with a chunky cranberry sauce as one of the mains. Langa says it’s a privilege and honour cooking for 34 international chefs. “It’s a dream come true. To get feedback from these professionals will be so special and a real learning point for me.”
Tony Rubin, managing director at Maropeng, is honoured and excited at Maropeng’s involvement with the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger.
The chefs will be treated to a visit to the Sterkfontein Caves and the Maropeng Visitor Centre, as well as lunch at Sterkfontein and dinner at the Maropeng Hotel. “It is such a privilege to have been approached by the South African Chefs Association, we can’t wait to show the international chefs their origin.”
The Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger runs from August 21 to 30. For more information visit www.worldchefstour.co.za
