Giving it her all – Beverly Makopo
November 11, 2011 – Mildred Thabane

Beverly Makopo joined Maropeng seven months ago as a tourist guide. After completing her degree in tourism at the Tshwane University of Technology (main campus), she knew that the Sterkfontein Caves was where she wanted to work.
Asked what she loves most about being a tour guide, Beverly says, “I love talking and being in charge. When I’m guiding a tour group everyone listens to me.”
Beverly is originally from Khureng in Limpopo, and so far her work with Maropeng has allowed her to meet the president of Fiji, American actor Paul Walker, the princess of Thailand and the coach of Orlando Pirates.
“What I really love about Maropeng is that every day is a chance to learn something new,” she says. “The staff here are really helpful and I’m looking forward to growing within this organisation.”

With fellow staff members already singing her praises, it seems Beverly is a perfect fit for Maropeng. Reuben Tsime, a tourist guide at Maropeng, says, “Beverley shows more interest each day. She just wants to learn more and has put me in some tight spots on more than one occasion with her questions.”
Beverly has just completed training through the tourism training company, Energy Guides. “Beverly is one competitive lady and she really pushes herself to get the best results each time,” says trainer Fred Pearce from Energy Guides. Energy Guides is a progressive and forward-thinking training provider in the tourism industry.
Of course the incredible views at the Cradle of Humankind are also one of the reasons why Beverly enjoys working at Maropeng. “I just love this peace and quiet. The atmosphere is relaxing and people come here and you can immediately see them relaxing and leaving the stress of the city behind them, and that makes me happy.”
