Biking through Maropeng with the Route 69 MTB Experience
February 21, 2011 – Tshepiso Seopa
The Cradle of Humankind is the location for the Route 69 MTB experience
The Maropeng Visitor Centre is looking forward to hosting mountain bike riders from The Route 69 MTB Experience this coming weekend. The three-day racing event starts on Friday 25 February 2011 and ends on Sunday 27 February.
The route includes going through to the Cradle of Humankind and Maropeng.
Without losing focus on the race, contestants and spectators stand to experience the beautiful, largely untouched area around the Cradle of Humankind. There is also an opportunity to gain insight about its significance.
According to the race manager, Rob Jackson, the route is designed to be challenging and enjoyable for the riders.
Day one starts at 07h00 at Lanseria and covers an 80km warm-up route. Riders go through to Hartbeespoort and then the Van Gaalen’s Cheese Farm, home of the Magalies Adventure.
Although the race starts off smoothly, the challenge will intensify on the second day. A lot of negotiating of the route will be required as the race goes up a gear.
There will be chill zones for riders, complete with free burgers and cold drinks, at all finish points.
Rider accommodation will be available at the Maropeng Hotel and at Hominid House on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and will also include transport from the finish and to the start on each day. To find out more about the race and to book for accommodation, contact the race organisers:
